Dear Dr Grant,
Thank you for your interest. Our primary interest is future fractures and the treatment of Osteoporosis, eventhough we are also interested in detecting the increased risk of breast cancer.
As we see it you could probably be even more effective with the DXR-technology fully integrated to the digital mammography workflow. Please, let us know if you would like to be kept in the loop on future developments: dxr[at]dxr-online.com

Am interested in your work, as we are trying to set up a service for breast and heel DEXA scanning in Northern Iraq, where the incidence of breast cancer has exceeded that it in the UK. Over 2 SD deviations above norm for BMD is associated with raised incidence of breast Ca, and the cost of heel DEXA is very low and might help identify those at
special risk.

<a href="#comment-1599" rel="nofollow">@arash</a>
Along with the studies that currently are ongoing there have been a number of clinical trials that support the hypothesis that low BMD measured with DXR-BMD gives an increased risk of future fractures in the Hip and the Spine. The study mentioned above (Bouxsein et al. (Osteoporos Int 2002;13:358-65) has shown a relative risk of hip fracture of 1.8 per SD of DXR-BMD) and it furthermore include DXA Hip and Spine measurements.
Furthermore Dhainaut et al. (J Clin Densitom. 2010 Oct-Dec;13(4):418-25.) has described DXRs ability to identify women that will be diagnosed with a DXA hip.
The ability to have accessible tools as well as prognostic capabilities will be central to identify and prevent as many fractures as possible.

<a href="#comment-1595" rel="nofollow">@Arne Høiseth</a>

The results of the analysis of 12,000 hand X-ray images were presented at the RSNA in Chicago last year (abstract SSJ17-01), by Dr Michael Wilczek. The results are not yet published and the information in this text came from an interview with associate professor Torkel Brismar (Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden) who is principal investigator of the project.

Previous results, published by Bouxsein et al. (Osteoporos Int 2002;13:358-65) have shown a relative risk of hip fracture of 1.8 per SD of DXR-BMD

Could we have a reference to the study of 12.000 women?
Do you have a riskratio for predicting hip fractures based on finger density measurement?
